You’ll be providing your contract expertise to the ISIS department within STFC. ISIS is a leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences which performs cutting edge research into the structure and properties of materials at an atomic and molecular level
Our Engineers and Scientists work with leading private and public organisations to provide a science infrastructure that supports discoveries from drug delivery to clean energy.   As the contracts manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting our vital work.  You will be supporting many complex procurements ranging from £100k to multi million pound contracts.
You’ll be expected to provide strategic commercial acumen in the reviewing and managing all contracts within ISIS (complex one-offs and ongoing) working within the required framework with ultimate responsibility to negotiate the best deal for ISIS. Many of our contracts are for bespoke and unique systems and therefore require contract negotiation and management through to completion.  You’ll be expected to provide the ‘voice of customer’ in working closely with our Head of Procurement, Finance and our shared services centre to drive forward continuous improvement.

Other duties include:

  • managing contract variations
  • visits to suppliers and stakeholders.

  • have vast experience of supplier management and negotiation on contracts of various sizes
  • ability to innovate and challenge established thinking in self and others, and to offer insights and ideas with practical application coupled with the ability to drive change
  • strong experience in leading and providing a strategic commercial acumen to contract management
  • strong interpersonal skills, be an influencer, with strong verbal and written communication, and a proven ability to work with others and provide a high level of customer service
  • ability to work under pressure and to provide a professional approach
  • flexible approach to dealing with people from other technical professions.


  • experience of working with Oracle.
