About the Role:

We now have a new opportunity for a Project Manager/Business Analyst to join a small team within the Portfolio Delivery Office of Digital Solutions.

The work we do within Digital Solutions is key to protecting STFC’s assets and is an enabler for the work of our scientific community. The role can be based at either the Daresbury Laboratory, the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Harwell or our or our Headquarters in Swindon. Our core STFC Digital Solutions Project Team are based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory so the role will have a requirement to travel between sites.

The STFC Digital Solutions Project Team works closely with teams across all STFC sites, as well as with our partner Research Councils and Shared Service Centre. STFC’s investments in new digital capability, innovation and partnerships with industry specialists are globally significant for science and research. This new role will be important for the future development and ICT progression of STFC Digital Solutions and STFC science as a whole going forward.

Key requirements of the role are:

  • manage projects within a portfolio of IT development programmes and projects, ensuring that all agreed deliverables meet or exceed stakeholder expectations
  • identify the requirements for delivery and construct a detailed and workable project plan, with critical path and ensure adherence to the delivery dates, keeping the project on track in terms of time, cost and quality
  • ensure effective risk management is in place across all projects, so that risks to Digital Solutions and the wider STFC can be identified and managed from the outset
  • maintain project documentation (including RAID Log, Project Initiation Document/Business Case, Milestone Log, Project Update Reports, Highlight Reports, Budget, Project Plan/Gantt Chart, Communications Plan, Stakeholder Engagement Map, Lessons Learned Log, Benefits Realisation) and communicate project updates to stakeholders
  • follow and ensure all project team members follow, best practices, techniques and tools for project management and planning, tailoring as appropriate to the situation. Ensure that problem resolution is handled appropriately and escalated when a decision is required at a more senior level or another business area
  • people and resource management within assigned projects.

Shortlisting and Interview Criteria:

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • a relevant degree, or relevant subject matter and industry experience
  • PRINCE2 Foundation (or equivalent)
  • recent demonstrable experience of managing small/medium projects.

Desirable:                    

  • PRINCE2 Practitioner (or equivalent)
  • higher level education qualifications.

Knowledge and Experience:

Essential:

  • proven and current experience of managing projects with your current or recent role
  • ability to use technology to support project delivery, including MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint.

Desirable:

  • experience of working within the public sector
  • management of multiple projects at the same time across various disciplines
  • understanding the life cycle of ICT services to enable implementation of project deliverables to the live environment.

  • strong ability to think creatively, to seek and accept change and continuous improvement
  • high level of drive, enthusiasm and focus on the achievement of goals. Ability to utilise organisational systems effectively

Desirable:

  • relationship management of internal customers of an organisation and external customers, either partners or tenants in a campus type environment.
