The Business and Innovation Directorate’s purpose is to bridge the gap between STFC’s pioneering science and business, and support the growth of new and existing companies. We do this by enabling access to our big science facilities ensuring the UK’s competitiveness globally. We also support start-up companies, offering them the right access to facilities, expertise and networks to grow.

Summary of Key Duties & Responsibilities

Supporting the Impact and Engagement team with the organisation of events and marketing the business incubation and campus facilities available to start-up companies and early stage SMEs and demonstrating the impact that our support brings to the UK economy.

You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of events and STFC’s marketing strategies and activities and initiatives we manage on behalf of our partners such as the European Space Agency and CERN.

Working alongside a team of 5 others - based in Oxfordshire but with some travel to STFC’s other locations in Cheshire and Edinburgh - the day to day role will include:

  • supporting the organisation and running of events both internally and externally
  • getting involved in monitoring and posting on social media platforms
  • updating website content
  • creating marketing content
  • keeping up to date with our tenant companies to identify PR opportunities

You will be interested in pursuing a career in marketing and/or events in a business-to-business environment.  You will have a genuine interest in technology and entrepreneurship. We are looking for someone who uses their initiative and will be able to bring new ideas to the team. You must be organised with an eye for detail. We are looking for someone who is confident and happy to speak with individuals at a variety of levels. You must be a team player who is happy to be flexible. You will enjoy a challenge and be looking for a work placement where no 2 days are the same. Experience of using social media platforms is essential.

Shortlisting and Interview Criteria

Essential:         

  • at university, enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and required or have requested to take a year out of studies to gain experience within industry (S)
  • right to live and work in the UK (S)
  • studying for a degree, preferably in Event Management, Marketing or Business; or in a science-based subject with business/marketing units (S)
  • experience of organising events (S&I)
  • theoretical and practical knowledge/experience of using social media (S&I)
  • good writing and communication skills (S&I)
  • good organisation skills (S&I)

Desirable:

  • interest in science and entrepreneurship (S&I)
  • qualifications in science subjects (S)
  • experience of marketing and writing copy (S&I)
